Pete Ragus Aquatic Center

Originally designed by MWM Architects, Inc. in 1998, the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center stands as a flagship competitive swimming venue for the Lubbock Independent School District. Located on a 5.7-acre site, the 37,000 square foot facility was thoughtfully planned to support both daily athletic training and large-scale swim meets.

About This Project

At the core of the center is a 25-yard wide by 50-meter long competition pool, offering the flexibility to accommodate various event configurations. The building also houses team locker rooms, training and support areas, a spacious lobby, and spectator seatingβ€”delivering a balanced combination of functionality, performance, and comfort.

Completed under budget in 1997 at $3.5 million, the project was delivered through the Competitive Sealed Proposal method. In 2004, as part of a district-wide bond initiative, MWM Architects was re-engaged to design a seating expansion and enhanced support facilities, allowing the center to better serve large competitive events while improving athlete and spectator experiences.

Designed for durability and efficiency, the architecture emphasizes low-maintenance materials and a clean, performance-driven layout, establishing the center as a lasting resource for student-athletes and the broader community.
