LUbbock Isd Waters Elementary
MWM Architects, Inc. designed a forward-thinking 21st Century learning addition for Waters Elementary School within Lubbock ISD. The 15,535 square foot addition supports the districtβs commitment to flexible, collaborative, and student-centered learning environments.
About This Project
At the heart of the design are operable partitions, allowing classrooms to expand and connect, fostering a dynamic and adaptable instructional model. Break-out spaces are strategically placed throughout the addition, encouraging small group interaction and project-based learning. All spaces are furnished with modular, mobile furniture to accommodate a variety of teaching and learning stylesβincluding standing-height desks and flexible seating arrangements.
Architecturally, the addition was carefully crafted to blend seamlessly with the existing school, using complementary exterior materials and detailing. The design incorporates clerestory windows and generous glazing, introducing natural light deep into learning areas and creating a bright, engaging atmosphere for students and educators.
Safety was a key design priority. Features such as controlled visibility, secure access points, and optimized circulation patterns were integrated to provide a secure learning environment without compromising openness or daylight.
