Talkington school for young women leaders
MWM Architects, Inc. designed a transformative arts addition for the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders, enhancing the campus with purpose-built spaces that support a full spectrum of fine and performing arts education. The 28,779 SF addition includes a 600-seat performing arts theatre, a fully equipped orchestra suite, a choir suite, and two dedicated fine arts classrooms, all designed to elevate the creative experience for students and educators alike.
About This Project
The theatre was designed with a high-performance acoustic rating of NC-25 and features a full stage, 50-foot fly loft, and robust backstage amenitiesβincluding dressing rooms, a scenery shop, and a green room. The space is not only functional but architecturally striking; its modern design and aesthetic presence have established it as the flagship performance venue for the district. The orchestra and choir suites are each designed to accommodate up to 70 students, with individual practice rooms and ample storage. Visual arts studios support a variety of media including drawing, painting, and ceramics, and are equipped with a kiln area and support zones to foster creative exploration.
