Cocos Island, Guam. A low-lying, mile-long islet off the southern coast of Guam, Cocos Island functions as a tropical day resort offering a variety of water sports attractions. MWM was retained to restore the island devastated by Typhoon Russ in 1990 and Typhoon Yuri in 1991. The new typhoon-resistant buildings, consisting of a recreation center with shops, locker facilities, a restaurant with adjacent pool and cabana, and a marine sports equipment rental center were designed in a tropical motif by MWM for Nikko Hotels International.
